Which Teams Have the Most Premier League Titles?
Since the Premier League began in 1992, there have been seven different winners. With 13 titles, Manchester United has been the most successful club so far. United’s success was largely driven by Sir Alex Ferguson, who managed the club from 1986 until 2013, when he announced his retirement from football. Interestingly, Manchester United has not been able to win the Premier League title since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
With 8 titles, Manchester City has emerged as a strong force in recent years. Most of Manchester City’s titles have come in the past decade, with 6 titles in the last 7 years under manager Pep Guardiola. It is also worth noting that Manchester City has won the last 4 titles in succession, a feat that had never been done before.
Chelsea and Arsenal have also been highly successful, winning 5 and 3 titles respectively. However, they have not been able to match the consistency of United or the recent success of Manchester City.
The only other clubs to have won the Premier League are Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, and Liverpool. Blackburn and Leicester’s titles were significant surprises, as neither club was regarded as part of the league’s elite when they triumphed. Liverpool ended their long wait for a Premier League title in 2020, achieving victory under Jürgen Klopp.
